Palmistry

It is said that Palmistry commences with that which is obvious and gradually moves on through uncountable and crucial steps of interpretation and judgment to the extremest details of the palm. From a palmistry reading, conclusions can be drawn, than can offer a person answers to all the queries he/she has regarding life. It is the job of a palmistry reader to interpret various aspects of a person's life through a process of reading the lines of palmistry. A good palmistry practitioner, will start by examining both the hands. The ‘birth hand’ of a right-handed subject is his left hand, which depicts the inherited temperaments of his character. The right hand supposedly reflects flexibility, individuality, and potential. For left-handed subject it is the other way round.

Palmistry or Chiromancy or hand analysis is considered to be a tool of divination and many think that lines never lie. It is the practice or art of telling fortunes by reading the lines, patterns and marks on a person's palms and hands. The practice of palmistry is found throughout the world and of course there are several cultural variations. Traditional palmists are basically fortune tellers, who can also read an individual's personality. As opposed to modern hand analysts, these traditional readers directly connect a single symbol or feature on the hand to something remarkable, like good fortune in a certain area of a person's life. According many readers, predictions can be made through palm reading such as evil signs, whether a person will receive money or become rich, about the past or future, state of health, life-span, the number of kids a person might have, the time of marriage and much more.

The different lines on the hand like the life line, heart line etc and the bumps or mounts are supposedly suggestive of various events in a person's life. Various interpretations are deduced through the relative sizes, intersections and qualities of the hand. In certain traditions, palm-readers also study the characteristics of the fingernails, fingers, palmer skin patterns, fingerprints as well as skin texture, the shape and color of the palm and the hand's flexibility.

The roots of Palmistry can be traced back to Indian or the Hindu astrology, which is also known as Jyotish in Sanskrit. The roots are also based in the Roma or gypsy fortune tellers. The Hindu sage Valmiki wrote a book nearly 5,000 years ago, which has been translated into English. It is known as 'The Teachings of Valmiki Maharshi on Male Palmistry" and comprises 567 stanzas. This art of palmistry slowly spread from India to China, Egypt, Tibet, Persia and even to many European countries. Currently modern palmists are said to combine the traditional techniques with holistic healing, psychology and even alternative processes of divination.
